Physical Therapy - Week of March 29th - April 4th

Each week, there will be a new exercise to focus on.  The idea is that this can be the "go to" exercise to be used as a motor break, or generally throughout the day.

This week's exercise is: WINDMILLS

Cross over and touch your opposite foot with your hand.
Reach up in the middle of the motion with arms overhead.
Then touch your other foot with your opposite hand.

Can you do 7 on each side?  Make sure to fully reach up tall in between each toe touch, as the tendency is to stay low and move from toe to toe.

Occupational Therapy for week of March 29 to April 4

Make Your Own Play Dough!

Not only is play dough fun to play with, but making your own works on lots of great skills too!

Ingredients:
- 1 cup of fine salt
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/2 cup water

Directions:
1. Combine the salt and flour. Mix well.
2. Add the water.
3. Knead ingredients until it forms a smooth dough.
4. PLAY with your play dough! Make "snakes" and try to make your name!

Occupational Therapy Goals targeted: visual skills to locate the ingredients in cabinet, following directions, measuring/bilateral coordination, emotional regulation skills, fine motor strength, and exploring different texture
*There are many other recipes out there if you do not have these ingredients on hand*

Speech Therapy for week of March 29 to April 4

What's in the Bag?
Find a small item from around the house (like a hair brush, screw driver, whisk, battery, small toy) and put it inside a bag, without letting your child see what it is. Then give clues about the item and see if your child can guess what it is. For whisk you could say: It's found in the kitchen, it is used for mixing, it's made of metal, etc). Once your child has guessed "What's in the Bag", you can switch, and now it's their turn to find an item, secretly put it in the bag and give clues! How many clues do you need to guess "What's in the bag"?
Speech Therapy Goals targeted: target sounds, making inferences, describing words, sentence formulation.
